JOSEPH DELAPPE (UNITED STATES)
Joseph DeLappe is a Professor in the Department of Art at the University of Nevada where he directs the Digital Media Program. His works in online gaming performance, sculpture and electromechanical installation have been shown throughout the United States and abroad ‐ including exhibitions and performances in Australia, the United Kingdom, China, Germany, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Canada. Delappe has been engaging with electronic and new media since 1983. In 2006 he began the project dead‐in‐iraq to type consecutively the names of America’s military casualties of the war in Iraq into America’s Army, an online first-person shooter game produced by the US Army. He also directs the iraqimemorial.org project, an ongoing web based exhibition and open call for proposed memorials to the many thousand of civilian casualties of the Iraqi war. More recently, in 2013, he rode a specially equipped bicycle to draw a 460 mile long chalk line around the Nellis Air Force Base to surround an area that would be large enough to create a solar farm that could power the entire United States.
Joseph DeLappe è Professore nel Dipartimento di Arte dell'Università del Nevada a Reno, dove dirige il Programma di Digital Media. Attivo nel campo dell'arte elettronica e della new media art dal 1983, DeLappe ha realizzato numerose performance ludiche, sculture ed installazioni elettroniche che sono state presentate negli Stati Uniti e nel resto del mondo, tra cui Australia, Regno Unito, Cina, Germania, Spagna, Belgio, Olanda e Canada. Nel 2006 ha avviato il progetto dead-in-iraq che consiste nella trascrizione dei nomi dei soldati statunitensi deceduti durante la Guerra del Golfo all'interno del videogioco di reclutamento e propaganda America's Army, prodotto dall’esercito. DeLappe dirige inoltre il progetto iraqimemorial.org, un memoriale virtuale che rende omaggio alle migliaia di vittime civili della guerra in Iraq. Nel 2013, ha usato una bicicletta modificata di sua concezione per tracciare una linea continua con un gessetto bianco attorno alla base militare Nellis Air Force Base. Il territorio di questa struttura militare è così ampio che potrebbe ospitare un numero di pannelli solari sufficiente a soddisfare l'intero fabbisogno energetico degli Stati Uniti d'America.
