Miltos Manetas (b. 1964) is a Greek-born painter, conceptual artist and theorist whose work explores the representation and the aesthetics of the information society. Manetas is the Founder of the Art Movement NEEN, a pioneer of art after video games (machinima) and an instigator of Internet Art. In 2009 Manetas initiated the INTERNET PAVILION for the Venice Biennial. In 2014, in collaboration with Rome's Swiss Institute, he introduced the concept of ÑEWPRESSIONISM. According to Lev Manovich, Manetas's work can be placed within a well-established tradition in modern painting (representing modern people in their particular modern settings). Manetas lives in Rome, New York and Bogota.
Nato nel 1964, Miltos Manetas è un artista di origini greche. Pittore, artista concettuale e teorico dei media, Manetas scandaglia temi e spazi della culture digitali, concentrando in particolare sulle forme di rappresentazione e sull’estetica della società dell'informazione. Fondatore del movimento artistico NEEN, pioniere dell’”arte dopo i videogiochi” (machinima) e principale istigatore dell’Internet Art, Manetas ha realizzato l’Internet Pavillion per la Biennale di Venezia nel 2009. Nel 2014, ha introdotto il concetto di Ñewpressionism. Secondo Lev Manovich, la pratica di Manetas si colloca all’interno della tradizione della pittura tradizionale che prevede la rappresentazione di individui all’interno di spazi e situazioni della modernità. Manetas vive a Roma, New York e Bogotà.
